J​ohn Harms is a writer, historian, publishing consultant and speaker. His sports columns have appeared in a number of major newspapers including The Age and The Australian. He has written essays and features for newspapers, magazines and literary and academic journals.

He established Malarkey Publications in 2007 and its website, the sports writing platform www.footyalmanac.com.au in 2009. Malarkey has published thirteen editions of the annual football writing anthology The Footy Almanac. His own books include Confessions of a Thirteenth Man, Memoirs of a Mug Punter, Loose Men Everywhere and Play On. He has written biographies of Steve Renouf and Michelle Payne. 

These days, apart from acting as a publishing consultant and helping local clubs put their histories together, he writes the weekly report of the Barossa United Under 15 Girls soccer team which appears in the local newspaper The Leader. He lives in Tanunda, with his family, next to the footy oval.
